Senators Ted Budd (R-NC) and Katie Britt (R-AL) have taken the lead in introducing the Laken Riley Act, a bill aimed at addressing immigration enforcement issues in the United States. The legislation, named after 22-year-old University of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, who was tragically murdered by an illegal alien, focuses on ensuring that illegal aliens who commit certain offenses are detained and removed from the country.

According to Senator Budd, the bill seeks to empower states to protect their citizens from what he perceives as the Biden administration's "lawless, open border policies." He emphasized the importance of preventing further tragedies like the one that befell Laken Riley, stating, "We simply cannot tolerate any more senseless tragedies like this one."

Senator Britt echoed these sentiments, attributing Laken Riley's murder to what she described as "willful open border policies by President Biden and his administration." She emphasized the need for the legislation to ensure that criminal illegal aliens are detained and deported, thereby preventing similar heartbreaking incidents in the future.

The House of Representatives passed the bill in a bipartisan vote, with Senator Britt urging Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to bring the legislation to the Senate floor without delay.

The Laken Riley Act has garnered significant support, with a total of 34 Senators co-sponsoring the bill, including prominent figures such as Sen. Mitch McConnell, Sen. John Thune, and Sen. Tom Cotton, among others.

The introduction of the Laken Riley Act underscores the ongoing debate surrounding immigration enforcement and border security in the United States, with Senators Budd and Britt at the forefront of efforts to address these pressing issues.
