For the initial quarter of 2026, Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center was identified as the third largest nursing home in Randolph County, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The available data indicates that the center offered a total of 100 beds, which is 20 fewer than the county average as of that quarter. Throughout this time, an average of 93.3 residents received assistance at the facility.

The CMS assigned Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center an overall rating of 2 out of 5, trailing the North Carolina nursing home average of 2.9.

Alpine Health and Rehabilitation of Asheboro held the position as the county’s largest nursing home during the same period, providing 238 beds. The Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center was next with 128 beds available.

As recorded in the first quarter of 2026, Asheboro Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center incurred one fine totaling $32,273 and experienced one penalty.

In Randolph County, North Carolina, there were a total of six for-profit nursing homes.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the population of older Americans continues to rise, while younger demographics decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, the population of those 65 and older grew by 13%, while the number of people under 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population increased greatly over the past hundred years, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study reports that nearly half of adults in this age bracket, about 28 million, are likely to need long-term services and support. The study also estimates that more than one-third may ultimately require care in a nursing facility.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
