The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will receive the official Fiscal Year 2027 recommended budget during its regular meeting scheduled for Monday, May 18, at 6 p.m., according to a May 15 announcement. The public is invited to attend in person or watch the livestream through the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal.

This meeting marks an important step in the county’s annual budgeting process. Residents have opportunities to participate and provide input as commissioners consider key funding decisions for schools, infrastructure, and services that affect daily life in Brunswick County.

Staff will present the recommended budget, which can be viewed online at brunswickcountync.gov/budget or through the county’s agendas portal. The agenda includes several notable items: an update on the Unified Development Ordinance Modernization Project; a public hearing on authorizing $349.6 million in general obligation school bonds; consideration of resolutions related to a special bond referendum and limited obligation bonds; approval of landfill equipment replacement agreements following damage from Potential Tropical Cyclone #8; authorization for a $1.25 million professional services agreement for sewer pump station rehabilitation; and annual board appointments.

Public comment is scheduled at each regular meeting’s start, with additional opportunities during specific public hearings such as those concerning bond issues or budget ordinances. Individuals wishing to speak should sign up before meetings begin using designated forms at the entrance.

Recent data shows that among Brunswick County high school students taking ACT exams in reading, math, and science during the 2022-23 school year, between about 15% and just over 30% were considered ready for college-level work depending on subject area—according to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Future steps include a public hearing on June 1 regarding both bond matters and adoption of the FY 2027 budget planned for June 15. Meeting replays are available online after each session concludes.
