The Burgaw Town Council recognized Thomas “Tommy” Lindsay on May 12 for his 55 years of dedication to the fire service, including 47 years with the Town of Burgaw.

Lindsay began his career in fire service in 1971 and has served in several communities, including the City of Wilmington and Rocky Point, before making Burgaw his long-term home. His career has included roles as a firefighter, involvement in rescue operations, and leadership positions.

Over five decades, Lindsay has witnessed changes in equipment, technology, training standards, safety protocols, and emergency response capabilities. Despite these changes, officials said that his commitment to serving others and supporting the department has remained constant.

Lindsay continues to contribute to the Burgaw Fire Department by maintaining trucks and equipment and serving as a driver when needed. Officials said he is always willing to help wherever he can. They also said that Lindsay’s passion for fire service is evident in all he does and that his dedication has left a lasting impact on both the department and community.

Mayor Olivia Dawson presented Lindsay with formal recognition during the council meeting on May 12 for what she described as outstanding dedication, faithful service, and enduring contributions.
