Recently, Congressman David Rouzer welcomed Liliana Arroyo Contreras from North Brunswick High School to Capitol Hill. She was recognized for winning the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for North Carolina’s Seventh District.

“I am always quite impressed with the talent displayed by students across North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District,” said Congressman David Rouzer. “This year we are fortunate to feature Liliana’s artwork in the halls of Congress. Not only does her artistic ability shine through in her work ‘Black and White,’ her artwork captures the complexities of wartime. Liliana is a special and talented young lady!”

The Congressional Art Competition has been held each spring since 1982, sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It aims to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the country, including in local congressional districts. The competition is open to all high school students residing or attending school in North Carolina’s Seventh District.

The winning artist’s work is displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading to the U.S. Capitol. Additionally, the first-place winner receives airfare for two to Washington, D.C., where they can view their artwork, connect with other winners from across the country, and participate in a celebratory reception honoring their achievement.
