New Hanover County Commissioner Dane Scalise has been appointed to a four-year term on the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) Board of Trustees. The decision was made during the May 15 meeting of the University of North Carolina System Board of Governors.

The UNCW Board of Trustees consists of 13 members, with eight selected by the UNC System Board of Governors, four appointed by the North Carolina General Assembly, and one being the president of the UNCW student body.

“I’m honored to serve on the UNCW Board of Trustees,” said Scalise. “The university is part of who we are in New Hanover County, and I’m committed to helping it grow, succeed, and stay connected to the community it serves.”

Scalise follows in the footsteps of Woody White, another New Hanover County Commissioner who served as a Trustee from 2018 to 2020. Scalise joined the NHC Board of Commissioners in April 2023 and was elected for a full term in 2024.

Further details about this appointment can be found through a release from the UNCW Board of Trustees.
