The House approved the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 (H.R. 7567) by a vote of 224-200, according to an April 30 statement from Congressman David Rouzer (R-NC-07). Rouzer said the bill is a significant step for American farmers and rural communities.
The legislation addresses issues such as disaster assistance, PFAS contamination in water supplies, nutrition programs, pork industry protections, tobacco economic aid, specialty crop support, and international food assistance. These measures are intended to benefit both Southeastern North Carolina and communities across the country.
“Passage of the 2026 Farm Bill is a major win for America’s farm families, rural communities, and our nation’s food security, which is a key component of our national security,” said Congressman Rouzer. He also said: “Agriculture is our state’s number one industry, contributing $113 billion to our state’s economy. The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 comes at a critical time for our nation’s farm families. I look forward to the Senate’s consideration in order to get these enhancements signed into law.”
Rouzer has served on the House Agriculture Committee since his first day in office. He co-founded the Congressional Agri-tourism Caucus and serves as co-chair of the Congressional Specialty Crops Caucus. According to available election data over recent years—spanning from 2014 through 2024—Rouzer has consistently won general elections against Democratic challengers by margins ranging between approximately 55% and just over 60%.
As Congress considers next steps on this legislation in the Senate, Rouzer emphasized its importance for strengthening North Carolina’s agricultural sector.
