At the annual conference held on Thursday, the North Carolina Association of County Clerks (NCACC) awarded Melissa Long, Deputy Clerk to the Board of New Hanover County, with the 2024 Howard Holly Outstanding Clerk of the Year Award. This award is presented annually to honor a clerk’s achievements and contributions to local government in the state of North Carolina.

Melissa Long served as Clerk to the Board in Pender County before assuming her role as Deputy Clerk in New Hanover County in 2021. She recently completed her term as NCACC President for 2024-25. Long has earned the North Carolina Master County Clerk designation and is also recognized as a Master Municipal Clerk by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
