New Hanover County Commissioner Rob Zapple has been appointed to the North Carolina Residential Code Council. Governor Josh Stein nominated Zapple on May 2, and the North Carolina Senate confirmed his appointment.
Zapple expressed his gratitude for the appointment, stating, “I’m humbled by the Governor’s trust in me to serve in this role on the state’s Residential Code Council and look forward to working with my colleagues from around the state to create common sense policy for residential construction.” He added, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring the experiences from the coastal region of the state into the conversation and delighted to represent New Hanover County.”
The Residential Code Council was formed in 2023. Its purpose is to oversee North Carolina’s residential building code and review appeals related to code interpretation. The council comprises 13 members whose roles are defined by state law. Zapple will occupy a seat reserved for a licensed general contractor experienced in residential foundations or concrete placement, serving a six-year term.
Zapple, elected in 2022 for his third term on New Hanover County’s Board of Commissioners, brings extensive experience from his career in construction. He is a licensed General Contractor and owner of Rob Zapple Design and Build Inc.
