Amber Smith, Senior Resource Director, stated: “Here at the SRC, we honor and celebrate older adults every day. This year’s theme for Older Americans Month is ‘Flip the Script on Aging’ and it reminds us that aging is no longer a linear path but is full of opportunities.” She emphasized that aging should be redefined with strength, purpose, and possibility.
Older Americans Month has been celebrated each May since its establishment in 1963. Led by the Administration for Community Living, this month-long event recognizes the contributions of older Americans while highlighting trends affecting seniors. The “Flip the Script” theme encourages challenging outdated narratives about aging.
The mission of the Senior Resource Center is to serve as a focal point for aging services in New Hanover County by offering programs and outreach designed to promote wellness and independence among older individuals. The center is recognized as a certified Senior Center of Excellence by NCDHHS Division of Aging.
