MuscleWorx Fitness owner Jason Morgan is seeking a temporary restraining order against Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive orders that have prevented gyms, health and fitness facilities from reopening amid COVID-19.

North State Journal reported on May 27 the orders to close businesses caused Morgan to lose at least $100,000 in revenue and 66% of his business space as he was forced to move to a smaller location at the request of his landlord.

“I think the legislators need to take a good hard look at what Gov. Cooper is doing under the guise of the safety of the people of the state of North Carolina,” Morgan told North State Journal. “The numbers do not justify it. Especially in New Hanover County — they don’t justify it — and across the state, they don’t justify it.”

Morgan said he has not received any financial assistance from either the state or federal government, the North State Journal reported. He is being represented by attorney Barry Henline in the suit against Cooper.

Morgan's Wilmington-based gym was cited before for attempting to reopen while the executive order remained in place, the North State Journal reported.
