Many gyms and fitness centers across Wilmington have reopened recently, but it’s not because Gov. Roy Cooper has abandoned his executive orders.
Based on a letter from the North Carolina Attorney General's Office, the gyms and fitness centers can operate "when that use is prescribed by a doctor or directed by a medical professional," the Rhino Times reported on June 13 based on an article in the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.
The owners are also saying that the Americans with Disabilities Act and medical privacy rights as why they do not require documentation for using the fitness facilities, the Rhino Times reported.
Many are curious as to why Cooper’s restrictions on businesses include gyms and fitness centers. In order to keep North Carolinians healthy, the gyms must be allowed to stay open, the RHino Times reported. Gym owners are wondering why the governor is forcing gyms to remain closed but is allowing other businesses to reopen. Owners say the effort appears to be counterproductive.
