The Frying Pan Tower flag that withstood Hurricane Isaias’ ferocious winds and looks storm-tattered is heading to the auction block to benefit those who were hit significantly hard by the storm.
Tower officials coined the flag, “Constance” because it flew high and proud Hurricane Isaias made landfall in North Carolina, WECT 6 News reported on Aug. 6. After the storm, the flag was removed and replaced with a new flag.
The Tower's flags have been auctioned off before. In 2018 after Hurricane Florence ravaged the area, a flag that officials nicknamed “Kevin” withstood the storm and was removed and auctioned off for close to $11,000, WECT 6 News reported. Like the fate of Constance, all proceeds that were raised for Kevin went toward victims of Hurricane Florence. The funds from the auction are supervised by the American Red Cross.
“Old Glory 'Constance' has been replaced with a new flag. As we have done in previous hurricanes to help those on shore we will auction 'Constance' to raise funds to help those in the Oak Island / Southport area hit hardest,” Frying Pan Tower wrote in a Facebook post with a video attached.
