Pender County School Board approved a plan that would send students back to school four days per week, WECT News 6 reported.
The county school board voted 3-1 for the return to in-person learning slated to start on Thursday, Nov. 9, for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students will attend in-person classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is a cleaning day.
Despite the board and support of many within the community, some teachers remain skeptical about their health and safety.
Louis Amigo, a physical education teacher at Rocky Point Elementary, told officials that the previous plan, known as Plan B, "working just fine."
"Plan B was working," Amigo told WECT Channel 6 News in October. "Kids were doing what they were supposed to, social distancing was there and now the kids are going to be back there's a lot of unanswered questions still... What happens if I get it, do I bring it home to my family? And yes I have kids of my own, what if I take it home to my parents?"
