New Hanover County issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
At the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners’ (NCACC) annual conference held last weekend in New Hanover County, County Manager Chris Coudriet was honored with a Presidential Recognition Award for his contribution as a member of the opioid settlement working group, also known as the 555 committee.
The working group consisted of five commissioners, five county managers, and five county attorneys from across the state who met regularly with a team from NCACC and North Carolina Department of Justice to help maximize North Carolina’s share of a $26 billion national settlement fund to ensure resources reach communities as quickly, effectively, and directly as possible.
According to NCACC Past-President Ronnie Smith, their work was instrumental in developing the historic statewide Memorandum of Agreement on the use of opioid settlement funds. Learn more about the opioid litigation at NCACC.org.
“This award is not given out every year, but only when the NCACC President deems someone has earned the requirements of this prestigious honor,” said Board of Commissioners Vice-Chair Deb Hays. “Chris certainly deserves it, and we are all grateful for his steadfast leadership and commitment to doing what is right and best for the citizens we serve.”
In addition to this recent award, Coudriet has been appointed to several leadership positions with the National Association of Counties (NACo), by presidential appointment, including vice-chair of the Public Health and Healthy Communities Subcommittee, which is part of the Health Steering Committee; and vice-chair of the Resilient Counties Advisory Board. He has also been appointed to NACo’s Information Technology Standing Committee and the International Economic Development Committee.
