City of Wilmington issued the following announcement on Dec. 16.
As part of the City of Wilmington’s commitment to support local organizations providing direct services to Wilmington residents who are disproportionately impacted by pervasive adversity, the city has opened the application process for its biennial Human Service Grant.
The grants will address five focus areas:
- Lower the risk of youth violence by providing programming that enhances academic success, increases positive community involvement, and prepares youth for future employment or academic pursuits.
- Improve economic conditions and promote prosperity for low-to -moderate income citizens through mentoring, job readiness, job skills training, career coaching, job placement and financial literacy.
- Provide a safe haven for vulnerable residents including, but not limited to, survivors of domestic and sexual violence, and child abuse and neglect. Offer emergency housing and/or services to assist survivors to regain security and stability.
- Prevent displacement, loss of housing, by providing housing repair for low-income homeowners, especially elderly and disabled.
- Increase access to healthy, nutritious food for households experiencing food insecurity and/or residing in a food desert.
The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18.
