University of North Carolina, Wilmington issued the following annoucement on Jan. 21.

Due to continued icy weather in southeastern NC, the UNCW campus will remain closed Saturday, Jan. 22.

Employees

University employees should observe Condition 2 (Suspended Operations) of the Adverse Weather Policy (PDF).

Residential Students

Residential students are urged to use extreme caution when walking outdoors and when traveling up or down stairwells as they may be slippery in winter weather conditions. Housing and Residence Life advises staying indoors and only leaving if absolutely necessary.

As an essential service, Campus Dining will provide meal service during inclement weather conditions. Check the UNCW Dining website, Facebook and Instagram accounts for updated hours related to the winter weather.

Student Health/COVID Information

The Student Health Center plans to reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24. Students who are experiencing symptoms should isolate in place and wear their masks when around others. If you have tested positive, please email coronavirus@uncw.edu. Staff will monitor the inbox as they are able. Testing will reopen Monday, Jan. 24 at 8:30 a.m. in both the Warwick Center and Veterans Hall 1012. Galloway Hall remains open and staffed through the weekend.

Other Events and Services

The Student Recreation Center will be closed on Saturday and plans to reopen Sunday, weather permitting. For updates from Athletics, visit uncwsports.com. For other closures and cancellations (i.e., Randall Library, arts activities and more), please check the websites of your events of interest for current scheduling information.

Be Safe, Stay Informed

When driving on affected roads during this weather event, please stay alert; avoid cell phone use; leave early to allow for additional travel time; reduce speed; increase following distance; and be patient. As conditions may vary across the region and no one weather bulletin will apply to everyone, please remember that each of us is responsible for our own decisions, actions and safety.

Students, faculty and staff should continue to monitor their campus email inboxes for updates; messages with a reference to the weather in the subject line merit careful review. Updates will be posted as conditions warrant to the UNCW homepage, Facebook and Twitter accounts. These channels contain the latest information available to university officials. The Emergency Information Hotline can be reached by calling 910.962.3991 or 888.657.5751. The hotline is a backup for information posted to UNCW.edu.
