Brunswick County issued the following announcement on Jan. 22.
Due to poor weather conditions experienced this Friday, Jan. 21, some Friday customers in the Leland and Navassa areas of Brunswick County did not receive their planned curbside trash collection. GFL Environmental will collect trash carts this Monday, Jan. 24 for customers on the affected streets listed below.
Affected customers are asked to have their trash carts at the curb by 6 a.m. this Monday, Jan. 24 to ensure collection.

MEDIA RELEASE
BOLIVIA, N.C. – Brunswick County Government offices, parks, and libraries are closed to the public Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22 due to inclement weather. The Brunswick County Courthouse and all court sessions are also closed Friday (more details below).
All appointments for county services during these dates including those at the Brunswick County Health Services clinic will be rescheduled for a later date. While facilities are closed to the public, Brunswick County will continue to operate under its inclement weather policy with identified essential employees continuing to report to work as directed.
WINTER WEATHER FORECAST AND SAFETY CONCERNS
Brunswick County is currently under an Ice Storm Warning with a Gale Warning also in effect for coastal areas. The National Weather Service in Wilmington currently projects that our area has a high possibility of experiencing a major ice event Friday and Saturday, with temperatures beginning to drop Thursday evening and freezing rain beginning in the western portions of the county from 7 to 11 a.m. Friday and continuing eastward from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The NWS-Wilmington estimates our area could receive up to one-quarter inches of ice with potential mixes of snow and icy rain Friday morning through Saturday morning. Find the latest weather updates and briefings from the NWS-Wilmington at weather.gov/ilm.
The main concerns for public safety at this time are poor driving conditions due to slick, icy roads, prolonged power outages, and potential downed power lines and branches due to ice. Individuals are encouraged to avoid driving and remain at home if possible until road conditions improve. See tips on driving safety during winter weather here.
If you see a downed power line, do not touch it with your hand or any object. Assume it is live and stay away. Even if electric lines are not sparking or humming, fallen electric lines can electrocute you if you touch them or the ground nearby.

Below is information concerning some of your basic services from both Brunswick County and our community partners. You are encouraged to check with your municipalities and local service providers for additional information about their operations.
TRASH AND RECYCLING
Update (1/21): Due to weather conditions, GFL Environmental are completing Friday trash curbside collection routes only. GFL Environmental will pick up any extra recycling during these customers’ next regularly scheduled recycling collection day.
The Brunswick County Landfill in Bolivia is closed Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22. Brunswick County convenience centers will close at noon on Friday and are closed Saturday.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY PUBLIC UTILITIES
Brunswick County Public Utilities has issued a freeze warning to advise all customers to take precautions to protect their household and irrigation water systems from freezing. Find the warning and our tips to avoid burst pipes on our website here.
Always be aware of the main water shut-off valve location for your home in case you should experience a burst pipe and need to turn off your water. If you do not know the location or do not have a shut-off valve, keep the Brunswick County Public Utilities numbers (910-253-2657 / 910-371-3490 / 910-454-0512) or your local water provider close by in case the water needs to be turned off at the meter due to a burst pipe.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY PARKS AND RECREATION
Brunswick County Parks are closed Friday and Saturday due to inclement weather. Parks staff will access Brunswick County Parks on Sunday, Jan. 23 to determine if parks are safe for residents to resume use.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY COURTHOUSE
The Brunswick County Courthouse and all court sessions are closed Friday, Jan. 21 due to inclement weather.
All cases set for Jan. 21, 2022, will be rescheduled. Individuals will receive notice of their rescheduled court date by mail at the address on file or can contact their attorney. District criminal court dates can be found online at nccourts.gov.
The Courthouse’s alternate filing location in the Magistrates Office at the Brunswick County Detention Facility will remain open Friday. Individuals can contact the Magistrates Office at 910-253-3919 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
