Cape Fear Community College issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.
Cape Fear Community College is excited to host several family-friendly Black History Month events at its downtown Wilmington Campus from Tuesday, February 15 – Friday, February 18, 2022.
Community members will have the opportunity to learn about outstanding local Black leaders and history, discover local Black-owned businesses and artists, and celebrate Black excellence through fun, family-friendly activities. These events will be hosted in partnership with Creators Print House – a local Black-owned digital apparel design and printing company that designed the Men’s and Women’s Basketball shooting shirts that both teams will wear during pre-game warmups.
CFCC collaborated with leaders from organizations such as Sokoto House, the Martin Luther King, Jr. SENC Celebration Parade Committee, and the New Hanover County Office of Diversity & Equity to coordinate the events.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME AND BLACK-OWNED BUSINESS FAIR
February 15, 2022, at 6 PM – doors open at 5 PM. $5 admission. Schwartz Center.
What to Expect: In cooperation with local business development group Genesis Block, discover Black-owned and operated businesses in the Wilmington area during the CFCC Women’s Basketball game. Food available from Webo’s food truck and Sea Devils Athletics will recognize community leaders throughout the game.
“MOVIE AND A MESSAGE” DOCUMENTARY SCREENINGS
February 17, 2022 – free admission and open to the public. Union Station (U Building) Auditorium (U170).
What to Expect: Join us in engaging with and learning more about Black History through multiple documentary screenings throughout the day. Free admission for all attendees.

5:30 PM – Wilmington on Fire – Q&A from the director/producer Chris Everett AND a special screening of the trailer from Wilmington on Fire: Chapter II
MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME AND BLACK CREATIVES ART SHOWCASE
February 18, 2022, at 6 PM – doors open at 5 PM. $5 admission. Schwartz Center.
What to Expect: The Art Showcase will be hosted throughout the game to highlight the talent of local Black artisans and creatives. Art will be for sale, and food will be available from Catch the Food Truck. Special recognitions of local Black leaders, performances, and more will occur throughout the evening.
“With these events, we hope to highlight the excellence and accomplishments of Black individuals in our community,” said CFCC President Jim Morton. “You won’t want to miss this opportunity for the whole family to participate in fun and educational entertainment during Black History Month.”
