Brunswick Community College issued the following announcement on Feb. 10.
Instructor Heather Crisco is a master at finding creative ways to engage her students. As part of a discussion on different cultures and subcultures during a recent #Anthropology class, Crisco invited a special visitor. Anthony Benson, the owner of Black Sails Adventure Company of Oak Island came in character as historical Pirate Stede Bonnett.
He shared stories of various aspects of pirate culture including language, gender roles, customs, medical treatment, food and drink. None of the students had to walk the plank but they did extra kudos for coming in pirate attire!
