New Hanover County issued the following announcement on Mar. 3.
In an effort to help more than 150 local families displaced due to extensive mold remediation, New Hanover County, Wilmington Housing Authority, City of Wilmington, Good Shepherd Center, Leading into New Communities (LINC), and the Resiliency Task Force have partnered to collect new or gently used furniture and select household items. Donations will be accepted on specific dates, and a list of needed items is below.
Community members interested in donating can bring accepted items to a drop-off location at 1002 Princess Street in Wilmington at the following dates and times:
- Saturday, March 12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Saturday March 26 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Previous donation opportunities were held on Wednesday, February 23 and Saturday, February 26. Additional dates and times for donations will be established in the coming weeks as needed, and will be posted at Diversity.NHCgov.com and announced through the county’s social media on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
If you are unable to donate items but would like to assist financially, contributions can be made to the housing authority’s nonprofit. Directions on how to donate can be viewed here.

“As we work diligently to return these families in our community to permanent homes, we are asking the community to help us provide them with needed furnishings to replace what was ruined by mold,” said Chief Diversity and Equity Officer Linda Thompson. “Our community is amazing at rallying around those who need assistance, and this is one of those times. Please consider donating your new or gently used furniture and household items so these families can move back in and make their place feel like home again.”
