The River to the Sea Earth Day Ride was organized and sponsored by the New Hanover County Bicycle Advisory Committee and co-sponsored by the Earth Day Alliance of the Lower Cape Fear. This photograph was taken 32 years ago today on April 21, 1990. Riders are seen leaving the starting line at the foot of Market Street and head east towards the Atlantic Ocean. Around 250 riders took part in the event that followed a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening the River to the Sea Bikeway.
