Three New Hanover County leaders were recognized for their dedication to serving citizens locally.
New Hanover County Manager Chris Coudriet was selected to receive one of the inaugural Leaders in Service awards from the Wilmington Rotary Club. The award was presented last Thursday during an event at UNCW’s Burney Center.
The newly established Leaders in Service awards recognize executives in the private, nonprofit and public sectors who are working to improve the quality of life in Wilmington. Honorees were selected after making outstanding contributions to the community in one or more of the seven Rotary Areas of Focus and based on how they conduct business in harmony with the Rotary Four-Way Test. Additionally, they have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
A native of eastern North Carolina, Coudriet has served as New Hanover County Manager since 2012. He supervises a staff of around 2,000 individuals and helps manage a budget of around $458 million. He has been a member of the Wilmington Rotary Club since 2015.
Also honored last week were Assistant County Manager Tufanna Bradley and Budget Officer Michelle Daniels, who received UNCW’s Master of Public Administration Alumni of the Year awards for 2021 and 2022, respectively. Bradley’s presentation of the award was delayed a year by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony took place May 3 at UNCW’s Congdon Hall.
The UNCW MPA Alumni Association began presenting its Alumni of the Year award in 2005 to recognize graduates who exemplify the program’s mission of advancing quality public and nonprofit governance through the practice of shared values, including inclusiveness, good stewardship and responsible shared governing.
A 2004 graduate of the program, Bradley, a Wilmington native, has served as Assistant County Manager since August 2019. She oversees the county’s Health and Human Services agency, Senior Resource Center, Community Justice Services, Veteran Services, and Port City United and also serves as a liaison with the court system and Trillium Health Resources, both of which receive funding from the county. In all, she has more than 20 years devoted to public service in the nonprofit and government sectors.
A product of Southeastern North Carolina, Daniels graduated with her MPA from UNCW in 2009 and joined New Hanover County in September 2020 as the Budget Officer in the county’s Finance Department. Including her time with New Hanover County, Daniels has 15 years of experience working with government and nonprofits. Daniels has played a key role in shaping the county’s balanced budget, enhancing key performance indicators, and ensuring equity efforts are prioritized so all citizens are served well.
“We are fortunate to have each of these great leaders as part of our organization, and I’m so glad that our community recognizes their incredible efforts, strategic vision, and dedication to the citizens we serve,” remarked Board of Commissioners Chair Julia Olson-Boseman.
