Brunswick County will seal a special time capsule to be reopened in 2087 during a special ceremony at the Brunswick County Charters of Freedom settings on Friday, July 1.
Community members are invited to the event, which begins at 9 a.m. at 310 Government Center Drive, NE in Bolivia (28422).
During the ceremony, public officials and special guests will place letters from present-day elected leaders, along with pictures and video from the Charters of Freedom setting dedication ceremony, inside the capsule. The capsule will also feature the lists of guests who signed their name while attending the dedication, preserving their participation in the event for future generations to see.
The time capsule will be reopened on the 300th anniversary of Constitution Day, which falls on Sept. 17, 2087.
On April 16, 2021, Brunswick County dedicated the 34th Charters of Freedom setting in the United States through collaboration with Foundation Forward, a 501(c)(3) educational foundation created by Vance and Mary Jo Patterson of Burke County, North Carolina. The inspiration to set up Foundation Forward followed their first visit to the National Archives to see the founding documents.
The settings feature replicas of the Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Residents and visitors can view the Charters of Freedom year-round.
RSVPs are not required to attend the event.
