A Message from Chancellor Volety

University of north carolina wilmington

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:

This is my first official day as UNCW Chancellor, and I wanted to tell you how excited and honored I am to lead this great university. For the past month, I have been meeting with many people on campus and in the community to get reacquainted with UNCW.

As many of you already know, I return to UNCW after serving as Elon University’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs for three years. Before that, I held roles as Dean of UNCW’s renowned College of Arts & Sciences and the Executive Director of the Center for Marine Science. It feels good to be home!

I plan to continue listening to and learning from UNCW students, faculty and staff for as long as I serve as chancellor. Faculty and staff have created a student-centered experience at UNCW that is like no other. I will continue to champion that commitment.

I look forward to connecting with many of you at campus events in the weeks ahead. I am excited about Move-In, convocation, the first day of classes, UNCWelcome, fall sports, and so many other great Seahawk experiences. In the meantime, if you have input you want to share with me as I begin my new role, please reach out. Send email to chancellor@uncw.edu or call my office at 910.962.3030. I also enjoy walking along Chancellor’s Walk and around the lakes in the heart of campus. Please introduce yourselves when our paths cross.

As an American by choice, the Fourth of July holds special significance for my family and me. I hope all of you have plans to celebrate this long holiday weekend in ways that are meaningful to you.

Yours in Seahawk Spirit,

Aswani K. Volety

Chancellor
