UNCW will be bustling with activity as thousands of Seahawks descend on campus beginning Friday, Aug. 19. First-year students and their parents will take part in the time-honored Move-In tradition over the weekend. Hundreds of campus and community volunteers are expected to be on hand to assist students as they settle into their new nest.
Move-In is among the numerous events scheduled as part of UNCWelcome, a series of programs designed to familiarize new and returning students with the UNCW community. UNCWelcome takes place over the first six weeks of the semester to ensure students have ample time to “Fall Into the Dub” by attending events, utilizing resources and adjusting to their academics, said Darion Bayles '19M, assistant director for campus activities and programs. The first day of classes is Wednesday, Aug. 24.
"Many of the opportunities available to students in the coming weeks focus on involvement and giving students the space they need to socialize, make connections and build their sense of belonging with the UNCW community," he added.

Burney Center
UNCWelcome Kick-Off features Brian Imbus, the Hilarious Hypnotist. Two shows are available.
Class of 2026 Picture and Convocation
Monday, Aug. 22, 10:15 a.m.
Seahawk Quad and Trask Coliseum
UNCW's official academic welcome for all new students. Students will convene at the Seahawk Quad for the Class of 2026 photo and then "Trek to Trask" Coliseum for the formal ceremony with remarks from campus leaders. Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a picnic for students, faculty and staff on Hoggard Lawn.
Rock the Rec
Monday, Aug. 22, 6 p.m.
Leonard Student Recreation Center
“Rock the Rec” with Campus Recreation is an evening of music and activities inspired by fitness, competitive sports, aquatics and well-being programs.
Stroll Show
Wednesday, Aug. 24, 6 p.m.
UNCW Amphitheater
The National Panhellenic Council (NPHC) is ready to 'stroll-off' at the annual Stroll Show. Strolling is a longstanding tradition of multicultural Greeks, and this year's Stroll Show celebrates 60 years of Black Student Life on the UNCW campus.
Involvement Carnival
Tuesday, Aug. 30, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Campus Commons
The Involvement Carnival is the first opportunity for students to learn about various areas of student involvement at UNCW. More than 230 registered student organizations and campus departments will be on hand to help students find their place in the community. Students can explore other ways to get involved through the following events: Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 13 (local nonprofit agencies and community partners), Faith Fest on Wednesday, Sept. 21 (local places of worship), and Market Days beginning Thursday, Sept. 29 (local businesses).
Traffic, Parking Reminders for Campus and Community
Please expect increased traffic and high demand for parking on campus from now through the end of August. During Move-In on Aug. 19-20, traffic congestion is likely to occur between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please obey signage and volunteers directing traffic. According to UNCW Police, Cross City Trail by east gate and rooster gate will be closed 6 a.m.-4 p.m. on Aug. 19-20. Parking areas closest to event venues may be at capacity, requiring patrons to park in more remote lots and walk greater distances.
Parking Permit Reminder for Permit Holders: Please ensure that you have a current parking permit in the Parking Portal, as a permit is required to park on campus. It is important that you begin to park according to your permit as soon as possible to avoid further parking demand and congestion issues. See Parking & Transportation for more information.
