UNCW's Jordan Faveri and Kayla Burroughs headed in two first-half goals to push the Seahawks past Coastal Carolina, 3-1, in Sunday night women's soccer action at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks improved to 2-1-1 this year with their home-opener victory. The Chanticleers stumbled to 0-2-1 on the young season.
In her first start of the season, Faveri netted her first goal of the season in the 10th minute off an assist by defender Talia Parrous to put the Seahawks ahead early.
Burroughs added her own header in the 23rd minute off a Madison Henry corner took to give UNCW a 2-0 advantage, which it took into intermission.
At halftime, the Seahawks celebrated the 10th anniversary of the adoption of Baylee Adkins by the women's soccer team through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation before a crowd of 917 fans.
After the break, the teams played even until the 83rd minute when Coastal Carolina's Rose Behrmann drilled a ball into the back of the net to pull within one.
Parrous got in on the scoring with her second goal of the season in the 85th minute with Henry picking up her second assist of the game to push the lead back to two.
The Seahawks are back at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday against East Carolina at 7 p.m.
