The Wilmington City Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, July 18, at 6:30 p.m. inside Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 102 North Third Street.

Items of interest include:

  • Presentation of Life Saving awards
  • Authorization to purchase 201 N. Water Street from the USCG. An accompanying ordinance would appropriate up to $1,220,000 for the purchase and $884,000 for closing costs, needed bulkhead repair, and operating expenses for the remainder of FY 2024.
  • For several decades, the southern portion of the property was operated as a City park through a license with the USCG. The purchase of this property will allow the City to re-establish the park space, while also connecting the Riverwalk. The 1.6 acre parcel includes the area that used to be the home dock for the USCG Cutter “Diligence” as well as what has traditionally been public space (Water Street Park) and extends along the river from just north of Market Street, where it abuts the Southern portion of Water Street Park, to the foot of Chestnut Street.
  • Two items that would authorize WHA to issue up to $23,500,000 in multifamily housing revenue bonds for Starway Village phases I and II, which would provide 278 units of affordable multi-family housing. The project lies within the city limits (2346 Carolina Beach Rd) and city approval is required for the bond issuance.
  • A resolution Adopting the Urban Forestry Master Plan for the City of Wilmington. This plan was presented to Council on June 6
  • A resolution Adopting Walk Wilmington: A Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan 2023 Update. This plan was presented to Council on June 20.
  • A resolution to Extend the Evaluation Period for the Northern Gateway Project by an additional 90 days. This would allow the City and the developer, East West Partners more time to finalize a development agreement for the Gateway Project.
