The Wilmington City Council held a regular meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. inside Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 102 North Third Street.

Items of interest included:

APPROVED -- A five-year contract with Axos Enterprise, Inc. for recording equipment that monitors officer safety and behavior for the Wilmington Police Department. Included in the Bundle Package will be an upgrade to tasers and taser cartridges; live stream monitoring system; auto tag license; interview room software; body and in-car cameras; and digital evidence storage. The total contract amount for five years is $3.858 million.

APPROVED -- A resolution that would authorize the filing of condemnation actions for right-of-way and easements on the Hooker Road, Hinton Avenue, and Wrightsville-Greenville Multi-use path project. The total amount is $188,654, funded by the WMPO Surface Transportation Block Grant Program. City staff have made progress towards voluntary acquisition of easements and right-of-way for properties on this Project. Title searches are complete for all properties, and 21 closings have been completed, with six (6) additional closings currently scheduled. City staff and the eighteen (18) owners of the twenty-two (22) parcels listed above have not been able to reach an agreement as to the total compensation and/or specific terms of the easement agreements to complete the negotiations.

APPROVED -- An agreement with LS3P Associates for architectural services related to the city’s acquisition and pending office consolidation of 929 North Front Street. The term of service can last up to 3 years.

APPROVED -- A contract amendment with Nu-Pipe LLC to include an extension of one year and a 2% cost increase. The contract has been in place for two years. The work in the contract involves installation of liners within existing pipe, which typically prevents significant road closures and is performed in a faster timeframe than either point repairs or full replacement of drainage pipes. The projects in the proposed $3.08 million contract amendment are:

1. Gillette Dr. (from the cul-de-sac at Hawthorne Rd. to the cul-de-sac at Ashbrook Dr.)

2. Chestnut St. (from 4th Ave. to 17th St.)

3. Grace St. (from 4th Ave. to 17th St.)

4. Independence Blvd (Two culvert crossings listed in the bridge inspection report)
