4.9% of New Hanover County residents considered unemployed in 2021

New Hanover County recorded an unemployment rate of 4.9% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That’s 5,953 people out of the 225,175 living in New Hanover County at the time, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The unemployment rate in New Hanover County has decreased compared to the 5.2% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in New Hanover County was less than the statewide unemployment rate of 5.2%.

Of the 114,481 people who had a job during that time, 647 were employed in the Armed Forces and 113,834 belonged to the civilian labor force.
