Senator Ted Budd of North Carolina praised the F-15E Strike Eagles from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base for their successful interception of Iranian drones and missiles during a recent defense of Israel. Speaking at the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, Senator Budd expressed his concerns about the potential fighter capacity gap and highlighted the critical role played by fighter aircraft in various regions.
Senator Budd emphasized the importance of the F-15E Strike Eagles, stating, “Our fighter aircraft are also playing major roles in other regions, like U.S. Central Command, every day.” He pointed out the accolades received by the F-15E from top military officials, including General C.Q. Brown who described it as "a very capable platform."
General Gregory Guillot praised the F-15E Strike Eagle as a "phenomenal aircraft" that excels in both air-to-ground and air-to-air combat scenarios. He highlighted its exceptional radar capabilities in detecting threats like drones and cruise missiles. General Christopher Cavoli and Admiral John Aquilino also acknowledged the importance of the Strike Eagles in their respective commands.
Senator Budd further inquired about the Air Force's plans to divest 26 F-15E Strike Eagles from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base next year, seeking an update from Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall. Secretary Kendall confirmed the Air Force's intention to comply with the congressional-required report on the divestment of F-15 aircraft.
