Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) has announced his support for legislation addressing a short-term funding gap in veterans' benefits, attributed to the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) miscalculation of necessary funds for the fiscal year.

In a statement, Senator Budd criticized the current administration: “It is unacceptable that the Biden-Harris administration failed our veterans by jeopardizing their benefits. Congress has solved the immediate issue, but we must also make sure this never happens again."

Budd is co-sponsoring Senator Dan Sullivan’s Protecting Regular Order for Veterans Act. This legislation mandates quarterly, in-person budget reports from the VA to Congress and stipulates that VA officials will forfeit their taxpayer-funded bonuses if another budget shortfall occurs.

"I will continue to hold the VA accountable in its duty to provide care for those who served and sacrificed for this nation,” Budd added.
