Budd & Wicker visit NC bases; discuss hurricane response & national security

Senate Armed Services Committee members Ted Budd and Roger Wicker have concluded visits to Fort Liberty in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina. During their visit, they were briefed on U.S. Air Force programs, special operations activities, and efforts related to Hurricane Helene.

Senator Ted Budd expressed gratitude towards Senator Wicker for visiting the military bases. "I want to thank Ranking Member Wicker for taking time to visit Fort Liberty and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base this week," he stated. He highlighted their interactions with troops from the 18th Airborne Corps who were involved in rescue and relief operations following Hurricane Helene. Additionally, they met with leaders from USASOC and JSOC and dined with servicemembers from both North Carolina and Mississippi.

Budd also emphasized the significance of showcasing F-15E Strike Eagles at Seymour Johnson as vital to national security. He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that military personnel in North Carolina have necessary resources: "The Old North State has a proud tradition of supporting our military. That’s why my top priority will always be to make sure the men and women and their families at North Carolina’s military bases have the resources necessary to keep our nation strong and safe."

Senator Roger Wicker acknowledged the critical defense work being conducted in North Carolina: “Some of the most important national defense work is happening in North Carolina." He praised those aiding citizens after Hurricane Helene's impact. Wicker also recognized Budd's legislative contributions during this year's NDAA process aimed at countering China's aerospace threat: "During our work on this year’s NDAA, Senator Budd has been a vital legislative contributor by directing the right investments to deter China’s growing aerospace threat."

Wicker expressed enthusiasm about continuing collaboration with Budd on strengthening America's military capabilities: "I am excited to continue collaborating with Senator Budd on our shared goal of restoring America’s military might and defense industrial base."
