Today, Senators Ted Budd, Mark Kelly, Thom Tillis, and Tammy Duckworth celebrated the Senate's approval of the bipartisan Working Dog Commemorative Coin Act. The bill is now awaiting the president's signature to become law.

The legislation directs the U.S. Mint to create a commemorative coin series honoring working dogs' contributions while providing financial aid for training service dogs for veterans. Proceeds from the coins will support America’s VetDogs in offering service animals to veterans and first responders with disabilities at no cost.

The House version of the bill was introduced by Congressman Patrick McHenry and Rep. Jim McGovern, passing on May 24, 2024.

Senator Budd expressed his support: “Working dogs help our nation’s active-duty service members, veterans, and first-responders recover from injury, enhance their independence, and improve their lives... I’m proud to lead this effort to give back to those who serve our country.”

Senator Kelly highlighted the importance of service dogs: “Our veterans face unique challenges re-integrating into civilian life... Service dogs provide the companionship and everyday assistance that make a real positive impact towards independence, quality of life, and mental health.”

Senator Tillis remarked on the significance of working dogs: “Working dogs are vital to the many Americans who rely on them... I am proud the Senate passed this legislation to honor our amazing working dogs.”

Senator Duckworth added: “Working dogs provide vital services and companionship... I’m proud the Senate passed our bipartisan legislation today.”

John Miller, CEO of America’s VetDogs stated: “This legislation reflects what we can achieve together for a common cause. Each coin purchased will empower veterans and first responders... We are grateful to Senators Budd, Tillis, Kelly, and Duckworth.”

House Financial Services Chairman Patrick McHenry commented: "Working dogs are deeply embedded in our daily lives here on Capitol Hill... The Working Dog Commemorative Coin Act is more than just a coin bill."

Rep. Jim McGovern said: "I’m proud to support the Working Dog Commemorative Coin Act... With this bill, we’re helping America’s VetDogs increase their capacity."
