Senator Ted Budd has issued a statement following the release of Keith Siegel, a North Carolina native, from Gaza. Siegel's release marks the end of a prolonged ordeal that began on October 7, 2023. Senator Budd expressed relief and gratitude, stating, "We are overjoyed for Keith Siegel and his loved ones that the long nightmare... is finally over." He thanked President Trump for his role in applying pressure to secure Siegel's release and acknowledged the efforts of various governments and agencies.

Budd emphasized his commitment to securing the release of other hostages still held in Gaza, particularly six Americans. He stated, "They must not–and will not–be forgotten."

Since October 2023, Senator Budd has been actively involved in advocating for hostage releases. On October 25, 2023, he spoke on the Senate floor about withholding humanitarian aid to Gaza until all American hostages were safe. He met with Qatari Ambassador Meshal Al Thani on November 6, urging Qatar to leverage its influence over Hamas leaders.

In subsequent months, Budd continued to push for action against Hamas leaders residing in Doha. He delivered speeches condemning Qatar's policies and called for stronger measures against Hamas.

Budd also participated in congressional delegations to the Middle East focused on hostage negotiations. During these trips, he met with key regional leaders including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

On several occasions throughout 2024, Budd made public statements demanding accountability from Qatar and urging international cooperation to resolve the hostage crisis. His efforts included legislative proposals aimed at reevaluating Qatar's status as a major non-NATO ally if it failed to act against Hamas.

The ongoing situation saw various developments including statements from Budd regarding killings by Hamas and calls for justice for victims like Hersh Goldberg-Polin and Omer Neutra.
