Today, Senator Ted Budd from North Carolina introduced a new legislative proposal aimed at providing financial relief to families participating in health sharing ministries. The Health Sharing Ministry Tax Parity Act seeks to enable families to deduct the costs associated with their health sharing ministry memberships from their annual tax liabilities.
Health sharing ministries are nonprofit organizations grounded in faith-based principles, allowing members to collectively share and manage health-related expenses. This proposed legislation aims to create parity between these ministries and traditional insurance plans, potentially making it more feasible for families to engage with health sharing options.
Senator Budd commented on the bill's introduction: "At a time when health insurance premiums and inflation are making it difficult for families to afford health care coverage, action is needed to offer more options. The Health Care Sharing Ministry Tax Parity Act would allow people to offset the cost of a health sharing ministry membership by deducting it from their taxes. Faith-based nonprofits like health care sharing ministries do great work helping Americans afford health care, and my bill makes it easier for more people to pursue this option."
