The University of North Carolina at Wilmington announced on March 31 the launch of a new campus chapter of the Society for Collegiate Leadership & Achievement (SCLA), aiming to offer students more opportunities to develop leadership skills and prepare for their future careers.

The introduction of SCLA provides UNCW students with additional resources focused on professional growth, leadership development, and building connections that can help them succeed after graduation. The initiative is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to support student achievement and career readiness.

SCLA is a nationally recognized honor society dedicated to helping students grow as leaders and professionals. At UNCW, the chapter will be guided by Christine Reed Davis, vice chancellor for student affairs and member of the SCLA National Advisory Board, along with Wakenia George, director of student success and mentoring in campus life. They will ensure that participating students receive valuable experiences tailored to their personal development.

Students who choose to join SCLA will have access to leadership training programs, certifications, scholarships, networking events, and other resources designed to enhance their skills both during college and beyond. “We’re excited to bring SCLA to UNCW because it encourages students to invest in their personal and professional development,” said Davis. “This organization offers meaningful opportunities to build leadership skills, expand networks and prepare for the world of opportunities available after graduation.”

Eligible students are invited each semester to consider joining SCLA. Those interested in learning more about membership or upcoming opportunities can visit the UNCW SCLA webpage or contact Wakenia George via email.
