The University of North Carolina at Wilmington announced on March 15 that it is closely monitoring forecasts from the National Weather Service Wilmington for Monday, March 16. The university said rainy and windy conditions are expected but current projections do not indicate a need to cancel classes or change the normal operating schedule. Updates will be provided if the situation changes.

The university urged students, faculty, and staff to stay alert by checking their email, text messages, the UNCW Mobile app, SafeZone app, and the UNCW Alert website for any updates. Parents and community members can also receive emergency notifications by downloading the UNCW Mobile app.

Students are advised to prioritize safety during stormy weather by allowing extra travel time and avoiding standing water or stormwater runoff. If conditions prevent safe travel to campus, students should contact their course instructors as soon as possible. All course policies remain in effect and students are encouraged to consult their syllabi and monitor student email and Canvas sites for updates from instructors. University policy on class attendance can be found in the UNCW Academic Catalogues.

Faculty who cannot be on campus due to weather have the option to adjust course modalities or arrange make-up work, with any changes communicated directly to students. Employees needing schedule adjustments because of weather concerns should contact their supervisors early; supervisors are encouraged to be flexible with scheduling needs.

The university thanked everyone for their attention to this alert and confirmed that further updates will be sent if there is a change in class schedules or operations.
