The North Carolina General Assembly was called back into session during its summer break, which saw veto override votes, last-minute deadlines for permits, mask-wearing laws and Gov. Roy Cooper confirmed some appointments, Rep. Frank Iler said in a news statement

Cooper vetoed four House bills that dealing with reopening gyms, fitness centers; amusement parks, arcades and entertainment venues; July 4th celebrations; and legislation related to the 2nd Amendment.

House members failed in the attempt to overturn the three of the vetos and withdrew the legislation related to the amusement parks, Iler said in the news release.

The 2nd Amendment Protection Act would allow for churches with schools to decide if members can carry guns on the property when school is not in session.

"This got the most controversy, but it simply sought to make these churches equal to other churches that don’t have schools using their property," Iler said in his press release. "Those churches can already defend their members. Although it originally passed with 77 votes, it only got 66 override votes.  So, the override failed and it will not become law."
