Senator Ted Budd from North Carolina addressed a press conference in Washington, D.C., emphasizing his stance on disaster relief for Western North Carolina. He stated he would not back any continuing resolution to fund the government unless it includes aid for the region.

Budd highlighted the prolonged wait for assistance, saying, "The fact that WNC has had to wait 83 days for disaster aid is just ridiculous and it’s a disgrace." He pointed out the dire conditions faced by residents, mentioning, "We’ve got people living in tents. We have delayed FEMA trailers. It’s time to get beyond these political games."

He criticized the previous continuing resolution attempt, describing it as a failure: "The initial CR – which is now dead – was a mess. It was a 1,500 page insult to taxpayers." Budd made clear his conditions for support, stating, "For anything to pass, it has to have disaster aid for Western North Carolina to get my support."
