New Hanover County, NC – In collaboration with the Cape Fear Garden Club, Inc. Civic Improvements Committee, New Hanover County Parks and Gardens and the Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County are gearing up for this year’s Plant an Azalea Week. The event will kick off on Tuesday, April 1, at 10 a.m. at Airlie Gardens, located at 300 Airlie Road.
Attendees will have the opportunity to witness county officials, parks staff, and members of the Cape Fear Garden Club engage in the planting activities in the Spring Garden. The public is encouraged to attend and participate.
The event is aimed at replenishing and enhancing Airlie Gardens' azalea collection. Plant an Azalea Week is an annual event, taking place during the first week of April, to promote the planting of azaleas across the community. The goal is to restore New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington to being known as a “city of a million azaleas.” Throughout the year, the Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County organizes many beautification events to enhance the parks within the county.
