Public Notice: Notice of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater

Brunswick County issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.

Brunswick County Public Utilities had a discharge of untreated wastewater from a 10” Sewer force main failure near 795 Green Acres Drive in Leland, NC. It has been determined that the sanitary sewer discharge began at approximately 8:30 AM on December 22, 2021, and was discovered at approximately 12:00 PM. The force main was completely isolated at approx. 4:00 PM and excavation for the repair began. The force main repair was completed and placed back into service at 7:30 PM the same day. It is believed approximately 160,000 to 165,000 gallons was discharged and reached a tributary of Sturgeon Creek which is a tributary to the Brunswick River. This notice is required by NC General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215.1C(b).
