New Hanover County issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.
Community members looking for an outdoor respite during the holidays have a beautiful setting to take advantage of at no cost.
The New Hanover County Arboretum will be open for the public to walk through during the Christmas and New Years weekend from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
“The gardens at the Arboretum are a great place to relax and unwind, especially during the stress of the holiday season,” said Lloyd Singleton, Director of the New Hanover County Cooperative Extension. “Our gates will be open to allow visitors an opportunity to get out of the house, stretch their legs and enjoy nature as they celebrate the holidays.”
While most county services will be closed for the holidays, the grounds of the Arboretum will be open December 23-27 and December 31-January 2. Additionally, the Arboretum is pet-friendly for residents to bring their four-legged friends. Pets must remain on a leash and all waste must be cleaned up. Please note that the main office, gift shop and plant clinic will be closed on those days.
