City of Wilmington issued the following announcement on Feb. 3.
The Wilmington City Council honored North Carolina State Representative Ted Davis Jr. during a regular meeting held on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Councilmembers presented Davis with a plaque to commend his recent legislative achievements, citing his tireless work to be a responsive advocate for the Cape Fear region during state budget negotiations in Raleigh last year.
Mayor Bill Saffo specifically mentioned Davis’ work to secure funding in the budget for some of the following items:
- $2 million in recurring funding for the state’s search and rescue teams where Wilmington hosts one of the five regional teams that responds to natural disasters
- $750,000 so the city can continue its Opioid Overdose Quick Response Team
- $750,000 to build a new 30,000-square-foot facility for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
“It’s a real honor to represent New Hanover County in the state House of Representatives, but it’s especially a privilege to represent the city of Wilmington within my house district,” Davis said during Tuesday night’s meeting. “I got a long history working with the city, I love working with the city, and want to help the city anyway I can. That’s why I got into politics, I want to help people. That’s what it’s all about. I just want you to know that as long as I’m in Raleigh, you’ll always have a friend.”
