The Wilmington City Council will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6 inside Council Chambers, located at City Hall, 102 North Third Street.
Items of interest include:
- A $492,794 engineering contract with WSP USA, Inc. for Phase 1 of the Downtown Trail. This proposed contract is for design only. Future right-of-way and construction activities will require additional funding. This phase is a 2.2-mile segment beginning at 3rd Street in downtown and running to the Love Grove Bridge. A Master Plan for a half-mile segment of the trail, known as the Wilmington Rail Trail, proposed within NCDOT's rail corridor, was developed in 2020 and adopted by City Council in 2021.
- A $12.5 million construction contract with T.A Loving Company for the nCino Sports Complex, a Parks Bond Project. A separate but related item is a supplemental funding ordinance for this project in the amount of $5.33 million. This additional funding is needed to cover increased costs and to provide a 10% project contingency. If approved, this money will come from the available debt capacity within the debt service fund.
- A resolution to donate the property that formerly housed Fire Station #6, 3939 Carolina Beach Road, to Good Shepherd Ministries of Wilmington for redevelopment with the purpose of providing up to 33 safe, affordable housing units paired with intensive case management services to those in need.
