Two Convicted Felons Arrested After Traffic Stop by Nash County Deputies
On Saturday February 18, 2023 a Nash County Deputy with the Patrol Division made a traffic stop for a registration violation on NC 581 near US 64 on a vehicle that was occupied by two males. During the traffic stop, it was discovered that the driver (TAYLOR) had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Parole Violations. TAYLOR was placed under arrest for the outstanding warrant. When the passenger (DICKENS) was asked to step from the vehicle, he dropped a small baggie on the ground of what turned out to be Marijuana. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, a loaded handgun was located underneath the passenger seat of the vehicle where the passenger (DICKENS) was seated. During a search of criminal history records, it was determined that both subjects were convicted felons and are prohibited from possessing a firearm. A criminal history check reveals that TAYLOR was charged with Murder in Halifax County in 2015, but was found guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter. The Department of Corrections also has TAYLOR listed as a member of the Bloods street gang. DICKENS was charged with First Degree Murder in Halifax County in 2012, but was found guilty of Involuntary Manslaughter. DICKENS currently has 53 cases that have been disposed of during his adult life, with 15 charges currently pending including the charges this agency charged him with on 2-18-23.
Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Nash County Detention Center. Spring Hope Police Department assisted on the traffic stop as well. DICKENS was incarcerated under a $100,000 secured bond and has since posted bond and been released. TAYLOR was initially held with No Bond, until his First Appearance, when his Probation was re-instated by NC Probation and Parole and he has since been released.
