Beginning, Tuesday, Sept. 5, work will commence to restore a section of South Front Street between Queen and Castle streets to a brick street. This block of South Front Street is identified in the city's brick street rehabilitation plan.
Crews will be removing existing asphalt over what is currently a partial base layer of bricks, will be fixing existing bricks, and adding new bricks for a fully rehabilitated brick street, as identified in the brick street policy.
Traffic control measures will be in place with advanced warning at the intersection of South Front and Nun streets as well as the intersection of South Front and Burnett streets. A message board will be placed at the intersection of Carolina Beach Road and West Lake Shore Drive. The official detour route will be Surry Street but there are multiple different ways that drivers can take.
The work is expected to take 8 to 10 weeks to complete.
