Washington, D.C. — In response to the Governor of New Mexico's recent actions, Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) has co-sponsored S. 2911, the Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act.
The proposed legislation aims to prevent the President or a cabinet official from imposing gun control measures through various means, including declaring emergencies or public health orders.
The bill was introduced by Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) and comes as a direct response to the Governor of New Mexico's decision to declare a public health emergency, leading to the suspension of the 2nd Amendment-protected carrying of firearms.
Speaking on the matter, Senator Budd stated, "The Governor of New Mexico's blatant violation of 2nd Amendment rights demands a strong legislative response, and I'm proud to stand with Senator Braun to push back on any new attempt to impose gun control through public health orders. The Constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens must never be infringed upon."
With the introduction of S. 2911, Senator Budd and his colleagues hope to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens and ensure that any potential gun control measures are subject to appropriate legislative processes.
