Washington, D.C. — Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) has co-sponsored S. 2835, the Pay Our Military Act of 2023 and called on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to bring it to the floor without delay.
The bill, introduced by Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK), aims to ensure that military service members in the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, and Space Force are paid in the event of a government shutdown in Fiscal Year 2024.
Under the proposed legislation, funds would be allocated to pay members of the Armed Forces, including reservists, if a temporary or full-year federal funding bill is not passed and signed by October 1.
Joining Senator Budd in supporting the bill are Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
In a statement, Senator Ted Budd said, "As critical budget negotiations continue in Washington, military servicemembers and their families shouldn’t have to worry about putting food on the table in the event of a government shutdown. I support Senator Sullivan’s common sense bill to prevent that from happening. For the sake of our men and women in uniform, I call on Senator Schumer to bring this bill to the floor immediately."
With budget negotiations ongoing, the Pay Our Military Act of 2023 seeks to provide a safety net for military personnel and their families, ensuring their financial stability even during periods of political impasses.
