The Wilmington City Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m. inside Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 102 North Third Street.

Items of interest will include:

  • Presentation of the Wilmington Urban Area MPO FY 23 Annual Update
  • Presentation of the Cape Fear Navigating Change 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan Update
  • Award of the construction contract for the MLK Community Center Gym upgrade to Clancy & Theys. This $4.525 million project is a Parks Bond project that includes the addition of a commercial kitchen, a lobby, new restrooms, office space, and a high school regulation sized gymnasium. Because of the increase in construction costs, a companion funding ordinance allocates $1.15 million of needed funds to the project.
  • A resolution that authorizes the Wilmington Housing Authority to issue up to $16 million in bonds toward the development of 104 affordable rental housing units known as Tidewater Townhomes. While the city is not financing this project, the city’s approval is required before the bonds can be issued because the project is within city limits.
  • Resolutions authorizing the City Manager to enter into agreements with Cape Fear Collective, StepUp Wilmington, and Stiegler EdTech, to narrow the digital divide in Wilmington through job skills training and workforce development. If approved, these agreements would maintain continuity with City Council’s current efforts to address the digital divide by reallocating $2,317,250 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding previously awarded for this purpose.
